Fat Sick and Nearly Dead

6 Jul

I recently watched a documentary on Netflix that had previously caught my eye.

Fat Sick and Nearly Dead was an amazing story.  My husband and I watched this film, and I was definitely crying by the end.  This documentary follows two different guys’ journeys to get healthy and lose weight.  The diet that is followed is a juicing diet.  The progress that these two men made, especially Phil, was honestly AMAZING!

No matter what your fitness or weight loss goals are, no matter what diet or plan of action you follow, this film should inspire you to work your tale off to get to your goal.  I don’t know if I have ever been so motivated as I was by Phil’s story.

There was one part early on where Joe, the main guy, was asking people on the streets across the country about why they were overweight or unhealthy.  He would ask why they would not make the changes they all admited to knowing would improve their life.  The most common answers were that a) “I don’t have enough willpower.” or b) “I am going to die anyway, I might as well enjoy my life while I am here.”

Both of these answers sadden me and also sound vaguely familiar (especially the willpower one).  My opinion, and that is what it is…an opinion, is that these answers come from a place of fear.  I think the fear can be of many different things.  Fear of failing, fear of struggling, fear that it will never happen for us.  So we just sit stagnant in our unhealthy lives, fully aware, but unable to make a move.

Have you ever had so much to do and felt so overwhelmed about where to even start, that you end up doing nothing?  That is what it is often like for people battling their weight.

I believe we all have the willpower to do almost anything we really want to do.  We just have to want to lose the weight/get healthy more than we fear and more than we want to eat the junk and not workout.  It is that simple and that hard at the same time.  Nothing in our lives will ever change until we make the changes needed in our lives.

I am a long way away from my goal, but I am headed there full steam ahead.  This film proved to me what the human spirit can accomplish when a person really wants something.

I cannot recommend this documentary enough.  It is on Netflix and is also available on their website for free.

Regardless of your goals, watch this movie, get inspired, be moved, and get going.

If you have seen this film, I would love to hear your thoughts.  Also, let me know what else motivates you and inspires you?

What motivated me to lose 124 lbs was diabetes! I was so sick & tired of pills & injections (I had type II). Now I am free of this disease & I feel wonderful. Only 3 more lbs to goal weight.

That is wonderful Jane! It is amazing what getting healthy will cure! That was one of the major themes of this movie. Both guys had similar auto-immune conditions that required medication, and by the end they were both off of all medications. Kudos to you!!!

Thanks for the heads up. I never heard of this documentary before but I’ll look for it on the internet over the weekend (no netflix available over here and the free movie on the website seems to be USA only :o( ).
