Onward and Unfortunately Upward?

14 Jul

As promised I am sharing the good, the bad, and the ugly of my journey to become a FitChick.  With 5 weeks of success under my belt, a bad week is a little hard to take.

However, I believe I know why the scales read that I was up 3 pounds today.  At least I think I do.

This week started with family in town visiting, included a mid-week ER trip for my daughter, and just general blahs from me.  Here is my list of the things that went wrong this week.  My goal is to correct all of the following and hopefully have a better week this week.

  1. Went out to eat on Saturday night.  I thought I would get a salad, but did not look at the nutrition information before I went.  Trying to look up the nutritional information while wrestling with a 10 month old and having your waiter check on you 4 times, is a little like pressure cooker.  In haste, I chose a 6 oz sirloin and steamed broccoli.  Not the worst thing, considering the salads were mostly 800 -1100 calories and my steak and broccoli were 400.  There was a TON of sodium though.
  2. Went out to eat lunch on Sunday.  Had salad with light dressing and a low fat soup.  The soup had orzo in it and again the sodium was a high for the entire meal considering it was only 200 calories.
  3. Little to no workout.  I worked out like a champ on Sunday night…yeah that was it.  I was bloated and miserable feeling most of the week.  Had little energy and motivation.  I think I was having some sort of baby detox from eating out over the weekend.  It was reminiscent of week 1 detox, just not as bad.
  4. I had every intention of working out Wednesday night…then the ER trip conflicted with those plans.  My daughter pulled a weight (ironic I know) off onto her toe.  Busted it open and ended breaking the tip of her toe. Can you say stress and worry?
  5. With all of this crazy mess going on, there were days when I was going more than 2.5 to 3 hours between eating and meals were getting skipped.  I think all of these things combined had my body in a tizzy!

I did have 2 ups to my week (not counting my daughter being okay).

  1. My linen pants are all loose and flowy on me instead of hugging my gut like they used to!
  2. My lower back was supported by my seat in my vehicle.  Meaning that previously my butt hump (the hump of fat I have above my butt) always kept my lower back from reaching the lumbar support.  I noticed yesterday, that the seat was perfectly contoured to my back thanks to my shrinking butt hump!

All of that long drawn out mess aside, today is a new week and new day.  I am not feeling great today, but am just going to power through and get a workout in tonight.  I am also planning on making sure I get all of meals when I should have them and not wait too long between meals.

Hopefully, all of these changes will result in decrease and not an increase in weight for the coming week!

I am excited to continue trying my new veggie ideas, and will keep you all posted as I make them.  Just like with my weight, I will share the good, the bad, and the ugly with you!  Stay tuned!

How was everyone’s week this week?  Give me you tips for moving on from a dud of week!

3 pounds up but still going,

The important thing to know this week is behind you, over & done. Just look ahead & remember why you started your journey and why it is important to you. This will make you strong. Have a great week. Jane

Jennifer, You are looking SOOO GOOD!! I instantly noticed your pants Friday when you got to work. They are sooo baggy!! Whoohoo!!! I know that water weight is a BIG problem for me as well. I can weigh one thing one day then eat a little different for 1 or two meals and BAM..there is 5lbs that were not there the day before. You are doing AMAZING and We are all behind you!!

Sound like a tough week, but keep strong and keep going. I always try to remember an old quote that someone told me once (possibly not quite correctly remembered!) :
‘Succes doesn’t come from never falling, but from rising every time we fall.”

    Good luck!

Love the quote! Thanks so much for the encouragement!
