Conveniences Are Lame…

31 Jul

You heard me.  Conveniences are lame.  I mean that.  Think about it for a minute.  Most tasks that involve little to no effort (convenient) have some sort of negative trade off for the ease of doing.  Fast Food is fattening and life threatening… disposable diapers are polluting the earth…processed foods have less nutrition and more chemicals…DVR (omg I love my DVR) causes us to watch more television and be less active and social…smart phones cause us to pay more attention to the device than the people you are in a room with…I could go on and on.

Quite simply, conveniences allow us to be lazy, allow us to be anti-social, cause harm to our bodies and harm to the earth.  Part of me wishes I lived in a time before all of these conveniences existed.  We would not miss what we never had.

The reason for my rant is that tonight I really wanted a burger and fries, but not really.  I started thinking about what to eat for dinner and nothing sounded good.  So, my mind went to burger and fries, but the more I thought about that, the more I realized that did not really sound good either.  What I was really craving was the ease of obtaining food to eat for dinner.  I did not want to cook, clean, or think about dinner.  I wanted to have it handed to me no dishes required ready to eat.  It was an epiphany of sorts.  I never realized that many of the times I ate out, I was merely being lazy about preparing dinner.

Why can’t we get grilled fresh veggies handed to us through a window while we wait in our car?  I really think I would “crave” that even more if that were the case.

I just wanted to rant and share my light bulb moment and encourage you all to think about what is motivating your cravings the next time you have them.

It is hard to choose the more labor intensive way, but think about the pros and cons of your easy way out before you take it next time.

Stay strong and keep moving,

Very interesting indeed. My weakness however is not fast food but chocolates especially after a meal I need something sweet or while watching a tvshow.

I suppose that is not a convenience then. Unless you count easy access to chocolate as a convenience. lol
