What Would You Do?

Okay FitChick Followers, it is time for a pop quiz.

You are going out to eat and you are faced with a choice.  You want to select the healthiest item on the menu, so what do you choose?

If you chose option B.  Ding Ding Ding we have a winner.  Contrary to popular belief, salads are not always the healthiest option on the menu.  Often times it can be one of the worst options.

The salad above is 1370 calories compared to the kabobs and green beans which are around 250 calories.

We went out to eat this weekend with my husband’s parents and I chose to go with the kabobs.  It was delicious and was a welcome break from basic low cal salads.  I would not have been able to make the best choice had I not done my homework prior to going out to eat.  It can be annoying to have to plot and plan before going out, but this is the reality for many of us if we wish to remain successful on our fit journeys.

We also went out another time to one of my favorite restaurants in our area.  It is a modern take on Thai cusine.  My favorite dish has always been Firecracker Chicken.  Recently, (since I said adios to bad foods) they added calorie count information to the menu.  Well my beloved Firecracker Chicken was a whopping 1200 calories and topped the menu for the most calories in one dish.  I found that their wonton soup had only 86 calories and was delicious.  While it was no Firecracker Chicken, it satisfied me with no residual guilt.  A bonus to the outing was that we found out Tink LOVES pot-stickers!  I mean double fisting them into her mouth.  She threw down 4 of them without so much as a crumb left over.

I would give this girl all the pot-stickers she could ever want!

In addition to my two outings that tested my willpower, I had my weekly weigh in.  I lost another 2 lbs and am psyched.  The best part of all of this is how I am feeling about my body.  I am becoming more confident about the changes with my body, and I think my pal kettlebell deserves most of the credit.  However, I am the one who swings that thing around, so really I guess I get the credit. *pats own back*

    I love that you did a comparison here with a salad choice. Most people I know assume just because they are ordering a salad while out that it’s the healthiest option.Yet another example of when this isn’t the case. Just began following you and look forward to your posts. 🙂

    I know your brain always goes to “salad” when out – because you THINK it is the healthiest, but in most cases it is not. The chicken dish looked delish in my opinion. When dining out (when I am actually trying to do good). I stick with chicken/fish and veggies. I eliminate the carbs and say no to the sauces (hidden fat in there). LOL Happy Monday girl.

    I am so good, I got the right answer 🙂 hehe well I know how tough it gets when you eat out but it’s true salads are really not healthy in a restaurant you might as well eat some junk food because you get the same calories.
