I Blame The Antenna

23 Sep

I am going to lay it all out on the line for you FitChick followers…I am a television JUNKIE!  I love television and all the various programs it has to offer me for entertainment.  I especially love the Fall TV premiere season.  We get the return of our favorite shows and an insane amount of new ones.  I love it!  Did I mention that I LOVE it!

My love affair with television has pretty much always been in existence, however I went into overdrive when I moved off for college.  Prior to college, I had not had regular exposure to cable television.  We had an antenna.  We lived in country and cable did not “run out that far.”  So the only other option was to have a satellite.  My dad was old school and refused to “pay to watch television.”

So depending on the weather and location of the television station, you would have to turn the rotor dial and rotate the antenna.  Sometimes the television god’s would be smiling and my program would have very little snow.  Other times, I watched a snowy sizzling screen just hoping to catch any part of Friends and Saturday Night Live .

Once I moved out to the “big city”, I had cable and I was hooked.  As far as I was concerned, this was the best invention ever…that is until I met my BFF the DVR.

I still have to find a balance between my incessant television viewing and well life.  I have started mixing in my kettlebell workouts with my TV viewing time each night.  Tink is usually in bed between 8 and 9 pm, so I usually zone out in front of the TV until I drag my butt to bed.  Now I make myself get up and workout while I “watch” TV.  I am a lot less attentive to the TV while grunting and swinging through my workout, but it offers up enough of a distraction that I don’t really dread my workout time. I get my TV time in and don’t feel guilty for doing so.

Here is my fall TV lineup for you all, just so you can see how crazy I am.  Thanks to Shelli over at Beauties &  The Baseball Coach for inspiring this blog post!

Back off.. he is mine!

8 – How I Met Your Mother
8:30– Partners (Giving it a shot.)
8- The Voice
8 – Raising Hope and The Voice
8:30 – Ben and Kate
9 – Happy Endings and New Girl…AND Go On (I have 2 DVR boxes for just this kind of occasion. Even though I already love HE and NG, I have to support Matthew Perry he is my “Friend” after all.)
9:30 – The Mindy Project, Don’t Trust The B in Apartment 23 and The New Normal (FAVE New Show!!!!)
9 – Modern Family
8:30 – Up All Night
9 – The Office and Glee
8– The Vampire Diaries (I love Damon Salavtore and I do not care who knows it!) and The Big Bang Theory
9:30 – Parks and Rec!

9 – Revenge

I also watch Pretty Little Liars, Always Sunny, The League, American Horror Story, Saturday Night Live (religiously)…and countless terrible reality TV shows.

If you love the boob tube even half as much as I do, get up off your tush and move while you watch that toddler working the stage in her fake teeth.

What are some of your fave TV shows?  Am I missing out on something 🙂 ?

Stay Strong and Keep Moving,

I have to add ‘Revolution’, from the makers of LOST. It is on Mondays after The Voice. With three young children I usually can’t stay up that late either, and therefore I thank my TV god for DVR. And my iTunes God for providing all of us with a free Revolution Pilot.

I do use iTunes for my workouts: I download shows on my iPad and can watch them while I am on the treadmill; usually while my youngest one takes her afternoon nap. Granted, not the cheapest way, but hey, it gets me to move and it is still cheaper than a gym membership. I need to get a TV and DVR in the workout room.

I forgot we are DVR’ing Revolution as well! I know when I worked out at a gym, I loved having TV on the cardio machines. It helps so much! That is a great idea with the iPad!

I am too but not a TV junkie but a TV shows junkie. In Malta we don’t have your channels so we watch everything online. The problem that I had was that I loved eating chocolates while watching these TV shows. But i made a stop to it even though I have cravings most of the time.

Good point! Mindless eating while watching TV is a big issue. I can attest to the fact that chips and snacks call my name more when I am marathon watching compared to other times. Good job on keep the cravings in check!

exactly, that was my biggest problem but now it has improved a lot even though i get tempted most times.

I cant wait until greys anatomy comes back on and private practice! Love these!!

I used to watch Greys but missed several episodes when I moved 6 years ago. I am really weird about watching episodes out of order. I have to watch them sequentially the first time or I don’t want to watch at all. For that reason, I never got into Private Practice. Maybe one day I will get caught up on DVD or Netflix.

I try not to watch too much TV since I am home most days thanks to funemployment. It could be really easy for me to watch TV all day long. I do have some shows that I am looking forward to like the Vampire Diaries, Big Bang Theory, New Girl, Scandal and Modern Family. I am also hoping to catch up to Sons of Anarchy and Breaking Bad on Netflix.

I love American drama series. Lost, Game of Thrones, X Files, Boardwalk Empire…you name it! Mind you Lost took the biscuit – what a cruddy way to end the show. All the while they said they werent dead and basically, when all is said and done…they were!
