Reflection and Resolutions…Yadda Yadda Yadda

1 Jan

Happy New Year everyone!

The hubs and I rang in the new year catching up on Revenge episodes, while party animal Tink slept the night away. Her New Year’s gift to us?  Sleeping in until almost 10:30 am.  Yes it was glorious!

So, it is January 1, 2013.  This is the post that I am supposed to reflect upon 2012 and make resolutions for the coming year.  Quite simply, 2012 was one of the best of my life.  It was the first full year of me being a mom.  It was the year that I finally took control over my life and well being by making permanent changes.  The hubs was my partner in parenting and fitness crime, and I could not have asked for a better cohort for either journey.

Now to the infamous resolutions.  I don’t make them.  I never have.  I do usually jump on the get fit bandwagon that most get on in January, but like many I usually fall off that wagon around January 3rd or sooner.  I do though have goals for myself just like I have since I started this journey.  My weight loss goals remain the same.

  • 318- what I weighed when I found out I was pregnant (should make this one hopefully this week)
  • 299-officially out of the God-Awful 300′s!
  • 275-What I weighed when I got married to my wonderful husband.
  • 250-Midway to being out of 200′s.
  • 235-What I weighed after 1 year of dating my husband.
  • 220-What I weighed when I met my husband.
  • 199-Officially out of the dreaded 200′s!
  • 185-What I weighed when I graduated from high school.
  • 160-My ultimate goal. I do not even ever remember weighing 160 unless it was in middle school on my way up in weight.

I am only 5 lbs away from my next goal…I was only 3 and dang Christmas happened.

My fitness goals are a little trickier.  I was discussing this with my husband, and I don’t want to set myself up to fail. I want realistic attainable goals for myself.  That is kind of hard, because quite frankly, I do not know what I will be capable of 6 months from now let alone 12 months from now.  I decided in the beginning to not set a time limit on my weight loss.  I did not want to get so caught up in the timing, that I neglected to make lifestyle changes.  If it takes me 2, 12, or 24 months to reach these fitness goals, then so be it.  There is not time limit for me.  I will achieve these at some point in the future, and then I will challenge myself with new ones.  For now my current fitness goals are as follows:

  • Run 1 mile without stopping.  I would love to plan for myself to be a runner, and say I will work to run a 5K.  The problem is that I still don’t know if I want to do that, or if I would even enjoy running.  That being said, I want to be able to run, hence this goal.
  • Rock out a 40 lb kettlebell on my tabata. (currently using a 25lber)
  • Be able to do 10 real push-ups.
  • Do a side plank
  • Increase my elbow plank hold time to over 2 minutes
  • Continue to push myself each month to improve my fitness in some way.

Thank you all so much for being with me during the last half of 2012.  You all have influenced me in ways I never thought possible.  I can’t wait to see what we can achieve supporting each other all of 2013!

Hello I found your blog at Mama Laughlin. I find your blog very inspiring. I too decided not to make a resolution this year. I actually said I am making a revolution. Also I am doing a life list of 30 things before I am 30. Weight loss is one of my goals and has been my resolution for the past 7 years at which I failed at so I decided to kick the resolutions to the curb and make real changes. I am your newest follower I look forward to seeing you reach your goals in 2013.

    • fatchicktofitchick January 2, 2013 at 9:13 am #

I love them! I can bust it out for 30 minutes at home and feel completely worked over in a strength and cardio kind of way.

how do u structure it, whats ur work/rest ratio?

      • fatchicktofitchick January 2, 2013 at 10:26 am #

I have alternated in the past with 40 second work 20 second rest and 20 second work and 10 second rest. I have found that the 20 second work and 10 second rest gets my heart rate up more, and I am able to push harder for 20 seconds where the 40 second ones, I start to slow down before the 40 seconds is up. I then repeat rounds 3 to 5 depending on how long I want to work out.

I highly recommend the Couch to 5k app! I NEVER thought I would like to run but my husband and I just ran our first 5k yesterday and it was addicting!

(I’m a friend of Sarah McHugh’s. Love your blog!)

    • fatchicktofitchick January 2, 2013 at 2:02 pm #

I have that app, and tried last year, but it was at the beginning of my journey, so running was extremely difficult. I am excited for nicer weather and to get back outdoors to give it another shot! Thanks the blog love! Any friend of my Sarah is a friend of mine!

I was reading your blog and noticed the part about being a runner. Right now my ultimate goal is to run for a mile straight. When i began this goal a couple of months now i started running on a treadmill for 30 secs then walk 2 minutes now im up to about 4 minutes. I repeat this for about 30 to 45 minutes. Anyways at first i hated it. It was hard and i was out of breath, my side hurt, blah blah blah. Now i m loving it, so much that there are days where i just want to run and run and run. Although i know i have to break for my 2 minutes because i dont want to hurt myself and over do it. I am gradually getting faster and my endurance is getting stronger. So anyways i just wanted you to know that you may love it one day. You just have to get through the crappy parts. Good luck to you on your journey.

Thanks so much Joy! I really do think I could love it. I am itching for a little bit warmer weather so I can get out there and give it a go!
