I Am The Love Child Of…

6 Jan

…Carlton Banks and Elaine Benes.

Much like my dancing mentors, I gots the joy of dance, but I don’t gots the rhythm.

That Gloria Estefan’s full of s#!+ man.

In an attempt to find something fun, calorie burning, sweat dripping fun, I tried some demo games on our Xbox today.

Here are the games we tried out and what I thought about the demos.

  1. Zumba– I enjoyed this game even though I was not always moving the way I needed too until we were ready for the next move.
  2. Just Dance-This one I like better than Zumba only because of the music.  It was tunes that I knew so I felt a little more jazzed to dance.  However, I did not feel like I got as much out of the dancing because it was not easy for me to tell what corrections I needed to make while doing the dance.
  3. Dance Central-MY FAVORITE!!!!  This game has a breakdown section.  So you learn the different moves prior to doing the entire thing.  Then it was really easy for me to tell when I was on the wrong leg, or doing something wrong with my arm because of the red highlighting the game uses to show you when you are doing something wrong.  I also loved the songs on this game, so this one was by far the best.  I played the 3 dances included with the demo a couple times a piece because it was so fun.  I was sweating by the end and thoroughly enjoyed myself…I mean who does not get funky when Poison by Bel Biv Devoe comes on.
  4. Biggest Loser-Hubs did the majority of this demo, and it was pretty cool.  I think it might be a future purchase for us.  It felt similar to Jillian’s DVD’s but had that interactive feature that helps to insure you are doing the exercises correctly…or at least attempting to do them correctly.  It calls you out when your form is off.  It looked like a lot of the features that comes with the purchased game would be really helpful.
  5. Nike+ Kinect Training-I don’t know if this game is designed for someone with a huge open space and no furniture, but we had major issues with this demo.  It was not recognizing the hand movements on the menu items, and then a lot of the exercises just were too difficult to do without moving all the furniture out of our living room.  If you have basement with a lot of open space, this might be worth checking out the demo.  If not, this is probably not the game for you.

So, I bought Dance Central and this will be my off days workout.  I can only kettlebell so many days and my muscles revolt against me.  I think this will be a fun way to get my heart rate up and give my muscles more of a rest than they would get if I threw the kettlebell around.

Are there any other Xbox Kinect games that I should check out?

Stay Strong and Keep Moving,

I like the black eyes peas dance game. I tried the micheal Jackson on the wii and love it. I think they have one for the Xbox as well.

Thanks for reviewing these! We have friends that love the MJ for the Wii too, but I was a bigger fan of Just Dance (even though sometimes I thought they were really hard!)
